The desire to explore new cultures, coastlines, and cuisines is stronger than ever and as summer approaches, many are setting their sights abroad.
Whether it’s the sun-soaked Mediterranean or the dream-like beaches of Southeast Asia, Americans are casting a wide net in search of their perfect summer destination.
With that in mind, Kinglike Concierge analyzed Google Trends data from January 1 to March 31, 2025, to determine which international destinations Americans are searching for most this summer. The full methodology is available at the end of this article.
Most Searched-For Summer Vacation Destination by State in 2025
Greece Ranks as the Most Searched-for Summer Vacation Destination
Greece takes the top spot as the most searched-for international summer vacation destination among Americans in 2025. It was the leading search in 9 U.S. states including Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Oklahoma, West Virginia and Wisconsin. This trend reflects a continued interest in Mediterranean travel, with Greece offering a combination of islands, history, and coastal relaxation that appeals to many travelers.
The popularity of Greece may also be tied to its accessibility and continued promotion as a tourist-friendly destination. With nonstop flights from major U.S. cities to Athens and island destinations like Santorini and Mykonos, travel logistics have become more manageable.
What is Greece known for? As the cradle of Western civilization, it gave birth to democracy, philosophy, and the Olympic Games, with iconic figures like Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle shaping intellectual thought for centuries. Greece is also famous for its ancient ruins, such as the Parthenon in Athens and the temples of Delphi. Beyond history, the country is known for breathtaking islands like Santorini and Mykonos, with white-washed buildings, crystal-clear waters, and memorable sunsets. Greek cuisine, featuring dishes like souvlaki, moussaka, and fresh seafood, is beloved worldwide, and its traditions of hospitality and celebration are deeply integrated into everyday life.
Netherlands Comes Second
The Netherlands ranks second, emerging as the most searched-for destination in 5 U.S. states including Georgia, Minnesota, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia. Known for its capital, Amsterdam, as well as scenic canals, museums, and modern cities, the Netherlands attracts American travelers looking for cultural experiences combined with ease of travel.
Several states in the South, Midwest and Northeast showed strong interest in flights to the Netherlands, likely due to Amsterdam’s role as a major international hub. KLM Royal Dutch Airlines also offers multiple direct routes from the U.S., which may influence search trends.
The country’s consistent investment in sustainable tourism and efficient public transportation makes it a practical choice for Americans planning shorter summer vacations in Europe.
What is the Netherlands known for? The Netherlands is known for its beautiful canals, tulip fields, windmills, and progressive culture. This small but influential country has made a big impact globally in areas like art, with masters such as Rembrandt and Van Gogh, and innovation in engineering, particularly in water management. Amsterdam, its capital, draws millions of visitors with its rich history, world-class museums, and lively atmosphere. The Dutch are also known for their cycling culture, with bike-friendly cities and infrastructure that make biking a way of life. In addition, the Netherlands is recognized for its commitment to sustainability, social tolerance, and high quality of life.
Indonesia Makes Third Place
Indonesia ranks third in the 2025 search trends, taking the top spot in 4 states, including Massachusetts, Michigan, Ohio and Oregon. The country’s most famous island, Bali, is a major driver of this interest. Known for its natural beauty and relatively affordable travel experience once on the ground, Bali remains a bucket-list destination for many Americans.
Although travel time from the U.S. to Indonesia can be long, the country remains attractive for those willing to make the journey. Digital content featuring Bali’s beaches, culture, and resorts continues to influence travel planning.
What is Indonesia known for? Indonesia is known for its incredible cultural diversity and stunning natural beauty. As the world’s largest archipelago, it spans over 17,000 islands, including famous destinations like Bali, Java, and Sumatra. Indonesia is home to hundreds of ethnic groups and languages, each with its own unique customs, music, and cuisine. The country offers breathtaking landscapes, from lush rainforests and active volcanoes to gorgeous beaches and coral reefs. It’s also renowned for its spiritual and artistic heritage, seen in ancient temples like Borobudur and traditional dances and crafts.
Europe: Americans’ Go-To Continent
Out of the 22 most searched-for destinations in this study, 14 are in Europe, highlighting the continent’s continued popularity with American travelers. From classic spots like France and Italy to rising favorites like Portugal and Croatia, Europe offers a mix of cultural, historical, and leisure opportunities.
With efficient rail systems, visa-free travel for U.S. passport holders in the Schengen area, and a wide variety of short-haul flight options within the region, Europe remains a convenient and appealing destination for summer travel. Americans often plan multi-country itineraries, taking advantage of Europe’s connectivity and proximity between countries.
The data also points to a strong interest in both Western and Southern Europe, suggesting that travelers are looking for both urban experiences and coastal escapes. As international travel continues to bounce back in 2025, Europe appears to be leading the way for American summer plans.

Methodology
To identify the most popular summer vacation destinations across the United States in 2025, we analyzed Google Trends search interest data for all 50 U.S. states between January 1 and March 31, 2025, reflecting spring travel planning for the upcoming summer. We used the search term format “flights to + country”, and looked at data for each of the world’s top 40 most visited countries including: France, Spain, Canada, China, Italy, Turkey, Mexico, Thailand, Germany, England, Japan, Austria, Greece, Malaysia, Portugal, Russia, Poland, Netherlands, Ireland, Hong Kong, Vietnam, India, South Korea, Croatia, Hungary, United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Singapore, Czech Republic, Ukraine, Saudi Arabia, Denmark, Morocco, Taiwan, Switzerland, South Africa, Australia, Tunisia, Belgium, Egypt.
To fairly determine the most popular destination in each state, we recorded each state’s relative interest score (0–100) for all 20 destinations. The destination with the highest score was named its most searched-for summer vacation destination. If more than one destination had a score of 100 for a state, we looked at which destination had the highest search volume.
