Exploring local cuisine

The local cuisine of Paros is basically focused on fresh fish and seafood. Across the island, you can find many traditional taverns that serve typical Greek dishes, such as grilled octopus, fried squid, past with shrimps and grilled or fried fresh fish.

Most taverns are located in Parikia and Naoussa, but you can also find value for money taverns in popular beaches, such as Kolympithres, Chrissi Akti and Pounda.

There are also less crowded settlements, such as Lefkes, Marpissa and Alyki, where you can find more authentic places to explore the local cuisine of Paros.

In Naoussa, in a scenery of impeccable beauty in the port of fishing boats and the whitewashed houses creating the typical Cycladic setting, you can also find luxury restaurants to taste the high-end local cuisine and the freshest fish.

Visiting historical sites

In Paros, you can also spend cultural vacations, combining sightseeing with the beauties of the island.

In Parikia, the most interesting spot is the Frankish Castle, which was built in 1260 A.D. by the Venetians. Parts of an ancient temple were used for its construction, and there are also remnants of ancient residents. Today, it is a wonderful quarter, where you can walk, take beautiful photos and enjoy the breathtaking view from above.

Another spot you should not miss in Parikia is the church of Panagia Ekatontapiliani. It is one of the best-preserved Paleo-Christian monuments in Greece, tracing back to 4th century A.D.

The Archaeological Museum in Parikia exhibits findings of the excavations in Paros and Antiparos that trace back to the neolithic period and are definitely worth seeing if you love ancient history.

In Naoussa, the Venetian Castle is located on the sea, a few meters from the waterfront. It dates back to the 15th century and was built in an attempt by the island to protect itself from the Ottomans and the pirates who were sailing the Mediterranean Sea at the time.
